February 22 – March 22, 2025 featuring Lori Markman’s exhibition titled Magical Landscapes, a solo exhibition from the painter and graphic and mixed media collage artist. Inspired by the beauty, harmony, and aesthetics of traditional Japanese landscape art, Markman captures the serenity and elegance of natural scenes while infusing them with a contemporary sensibility through intricate layering and a vibrant interplay of texture and color. Each piece invites viewers to explore a world where tradition meets innovation, evoking a sense of wonder and tranquility.
Reflecting on her work as a collage artist, Markman states, “I use art to tell stories that are personal and important to me. I seek images that contain within them something of the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and psychological states I want to express. The selected images inspire my artwork, modifying and transforming those images until they express the story I want to tell.” Magical Landscapes offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Markman’s vibrant storytelling and engage with her creative journey.
To enhance the Magical Landscapes experience, Glendale Arts will hosted a series of events and activities at the gallery that celebrate and deepen the connection to the exhibition’s theme: Sound Bath Meditation and Echoes of Japan: A Koto Performance and Talk with Kozue Matsumoto.
